How VAULT can help you
Tape archiving has been dogged by slow transfer speeds and the inability to share drives over networks. VAULT changes all that. Developed for central archives, the VAULT multi-drive LTO-7 / LTO-8 system can write and read data from any or all drives simultaneously at an astonishing 1440MB/s (LTO-8). Network-attached, users can read and write from any authorised workstation, for a workflow that is far more efficient than drives tethered to a single dedicated computer.
ll GB Labs LTO systems include fully featured archiving software for backup and archiving tasks. The interface for the software is a web GUI that allows users and administrators to write TAR files to tape sets or even format the tapes as LTFS. All operations can be completed using the software and data can be pulled seamlessly from any GB Labs system.
Uniquely the system also allows users to mount LTFS tapes on their desktops through the network. You can then interact with the tapes much like any other removable media (USB, FireWire drives etc.)
The software logs all activity and catalogs the contents of each tape and any additional meta data. This means that the entire catalog can be searched intelligently and retrieval of data is fast and straightforward.
Performance
Data archiving to VAULT is optimised by clever algorithms that form part of our unique HyperWrite software.
Spanning large tape sets is problematic for almost all LTO archiving systems; typical write times can be measured in tens of hours or even days. VAULT can analyse/write hundreds of Terabytes of mixed files in a fraction of the time.
With the performance of LTO-8 reaching 360MB/s per tape drive, the 4 drive VAULT unit is capable of archiving at up to 1440MB/s.
This hardware and software combination, developed by GB Labs, makes VAULT the most efficient LTO archiving platform on the market.
